1. Scope and accountability
This Privacy Policy applies to Lexter Intelligence websites, applications, protected workspaces, communications and related services operated by Lexter Search Inc. (collectively, the Service). Lexter Search Inc. is accountable for personal information under its control and can be reached at privacy@lexterintelligence.com.
A customer organization may also control information entered into its protected workspace. In that situation, the organization and its own privacy notices may govern the information, while Lexter processes it to provide the Service.
2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the Service, we may collect:
- Information you provide: your name, work email, firm or organization, role, account details, questions, search briefs, feedback, correspondence and other content you choose to submit.
- Service and device information: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring page, timestamps, session activity, security events and diagnostic records generated when you use the Service.
- Professional-market information: professional, firm, office, employment, movement and represented-work information obtained from public, professional, licensed or otherwise authorized sources.
- Customer-authorized information: data supplied by or for a customer workspace, subject to the customer's instructions, permissions and applicable law.
Please do not provide personal information that you are not authorized to share or that is unnecessary for the request or workflow.
3. How we use information
We use personal information for reasonable business purposes, including to:
- respond to questions, demo requests and free lawyer-list requests;
- create and administer accounts, workspaces, permissions and customer support;
- provide legal-market research, search, reporting and collaboration workflows;
- operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve the Service;
- measure product and website use in an aggregated or appropriately limited manner;
- investigate data-correction, privacy, security and misuse reports;
- meet legal, regulatory, contractual and recordkeeping obligations; and
- communicate about the Service as permitted by applicable law.
A professional-market record or pattern does not establish a person's private intent, performance, suitability or likelihood of changing employment. Lexter should not be used to infer protected characteristics or other sensitive facts from professional records.
4. Consent and legal authority
We collect, use and disclose personal information with consent or as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law. The form of consent depends on the sensitivity of the information and the reasonable expectations associated with the interaction.
You may withdraw consent for future use where the law permits, subject to reasonable notice and legal or contractual restrictions. Withdrawal may limit our ability to provide some features or respond to a request.
5. When we disclose information
We may disclose personal information to:
- service providers that help us host, secure, analyze, support and deliver the Service and its communications;
- authorized users and administrators of the customer workspace connected to the information;
- professional advisers, auditors, insurers and financing sources under appropriate duties;
- law-enforcement, regulatory or governmental bodies where disclosure is permitted or required by law; and
- a party to a proposed or completed corporate transaction, subject to applicable confidentiality and legal requirements.
We do not disclose customer-confidential workspace content to third parties for their own direct marketing. Service providers may use information only to perform services for us or as otherwise permitted by their agreements and applicable law.
6. Processing outside Canada
Lexter and its service providers may process or store personal information in Canada and other jurisdictions. Information processed outside your province or Canada may be subject to the laws and lawful-access requirements of that jurisdiction. We use contractual, technical and organizational measures appropriate to the role and sensitivity of the information.
7. Retention and safeguards
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide the Service, maintain required business records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements and meet legal obligations. When information is no longer required, we delete, de-identify or securely dispose of it as appropriate.
We use administrative, technical and organizational safeguards designed for the nature and sensitivity of the information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Report a suspected security concern to security@lexterintelligence.com.
8. Cookies and analytics
The Service may use essential storage technologies needed for authentication, security and preferences, along with analytics technologies that help us understand website and product use. Browser settings may let you limit some cookies or storage, but blocking essential technologies can prevent parts of the Service from working.
9. Email communications
Submitting a form authorizes us to respond to that request and deliver the requested information. It does not by itself subscribe you to unrelated marketing. Where we send a commercial electronic message, we use consent or another lawful basis and provide the identification and unsubscribe options required by applicable law.
10. Access, correction and privacy choices
Subject to applicable law, you may ask whether we hold your personal information, request access to it, request correction of inaccurate information, or raise a concern about our privacy practices. We may need to verify your identity and may withhold information where the law requires or permits us to do so.
Send privacy requests to privacy@lexterintelligence.com. Send a suspected professional-record error to corrections@lexterintelligence.com with enough detail for us to review the record. A correction request does not require Lexter to remove accurate information where continued use is permitted by law.
11. Questions and complaints
We will review privacy questions and complaints in good faith. If a concern remains unresolved, you may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, where applicable, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as the Service, our practices or applicable requirements change. We will post the revised version with a new last-updated date and provide additional notice where required by law.
